Business Practices
Resources and Links.Assist member firms in the business matters promoting the success of a
firm, including Quality Improvement, Risk Management, and Design/Build.
Conduct Salary and Business Practices survey for use by consulting
firms.

2008 Salary Survey and expanded Business Practices section is
available and includes regional information from ACEC/AZ and NV.

Met
with the new assistant city manager, Nancy Johnson, of Colorado
Springs to introduce her to ACEC/CO and discuss city’s contract.
Another meeting is being arranged with Cam Mc Nair, City Engineer,
Wynetta Massey, City Attorney
and Steve Gess, Contracting Manager to discuss the contract.

Public hearing was held Nov. 14th on the architects’ continuing
education rules that go into effect Jan. 1, 2009. The task force
will be developing rules for the continuing competency piece now
which goes into effect in July 2009.

- Annual ReportEstablish a professional development program through which members of
ACEC/CO can expand their capabilities in business matters and provide
method to record credit for participation. Present interesting, timely
programs covering a wide variety of topics.

Future Leaders Supervisory Series concluded. Graduation will be
January 27th.

Attended a Sustainability Think Tank meeting led by Dave Stewart,
Bill Wallace and Lauren Evans.

Our
new Breakfast Series started with Rod Hoffman on “Demographics and
the World of Predicting Your Market”.

We
will start promoting the 2009 FL programs. Members can register for
the FL Management classes currently in session on a single class
basis instead of the whole series.

people attended the October General Meeting which had an 8 on 8
format on Sustainability.

Over
90 attendees ACEC Regional conference with ACEC/CO, NV, AZ, NM, and
UT was held in Tucson on Nov. 14-15th and had. Colorado
host the event next year – tentative dates are Oct. 22 –
24th. Considering holding the event in Colorado Springs.

Expert Witness -
Annual Report
Members OnlyPromote and train consultants to be expert witnesses. Conduct the
expert witness course, certify expert witnesses and encourage use of
certified expert witnesses.

Over
80 people attended the November Ethics Seminar on ethical issues
surrounding catastrophic events.

ACEC/CO’s current expert witness certificants will be grandfathered
into the ACEC national Expert Witness Designation program which was
approved at the ACEC national Expert Witness Designation program at
the Montreal meeting. Our current certificants will be
grandfathered in. We are encouraging Colorado members to become
certified by June 30, 2009 in order to be grandfathered into the
program.

QBS Colorado - Annual Report
QBS Website
A coalition of the American Institute of Architects, National Society
of Professional Engineers/PEPP, and American Consulting Engineers
Council, headed by a Board consisting of three representatives of each
organization and a part-time coordinator. Funded by contributions from
each organization. Promote qualifications based selection to public
agencies, other organization and members.

Website/Technology - Annual Report
Reviews and recommends improvements to the ACEC/CO website, keeps
current on new technological strategies that can be used to improve
communication between the Council and its member firms.

deliver the CEPAC checks.

Local Transportation Links
Maintain liaison with Colorado Department of Transportation and monitor
legislation relative to transportation. Establish liaison with other
transportation related agencies such as Regional Transportation
District, Denver Regional Council of Government, Department of
Aviation, and other municipal and county government agencies.

Held
our ACEC/CDOT Liaison November meeting. CDOT asked for input from
members as to the impact of lack of CDOT work has on their
businesses which will be used before the legislature. Meeting is
being scheduled for December.

Members are assisting in planning the CDOT conference and sponsoring it.
The conference has been shortened to one day, Dec. 9th
,at Stapleton Doubletree Hotel, Denver. ACEC will hold a reception
following the conference; new legislators and leadership are being
invited to attend.

Attending Colorado SAFETEA-LU meetings.

Met
with Pam Hutton, CDOT chief engineer, about the Governor’s
Efficiency report concerning consultants’ usage program.

Russ
George participated on panel with DOT directors from ACEC NV and AZ
on transportation challenges at the Joint Regional Conference held
on Nov. 14-15.

Elizabeth Stolfus and Mark Boggs attended CCA meetings to discuss
transportation funding strategies for the upcoming legislative
session.

Met
with Stan Szabelak with RTD’s Fastracks program and Jane Donovan
about issues of mutual concern such as contracts, education, DBE
program.

Sue
Johnson, sustainability coordinator for RTD was a presenter at our
October General Meeting 8 on 8 program on Sustainability.

will also be involved in the CDOT annual transportation conference;
theme is sustainability.

Health and Environmental Protection Agency as issues require. Monitor
and report on activities of the Hazardous Waste Action Coalition and

Held
our quarterly CDPHE meeting to discuss upcoming stakeholders
meetings, legislation and regulations with the water, hazardous
waste, air quality divisions. The next meeting will provide
conference calling capabilities so our members in outlying areas,
especially western slope members, can participate.

Workshops with FHA and CDOT are being planned starting with CDOT’s
Environmental Winter Conference on Feb. 26th on the best
practices of quality documents; workshops on March 19th
and April 16th will follow.

at CTL/Thompson’s Ft. Collins office and John Vazquez, Mayor of
Windsor, will talk about the challenges Windsor has faced since the
May tornado.

1600 students and teachers attended the Construction Career Days on
Oct. 7 and 8 at Adams County Fairgrounds; and 450 attended the Sept.
25th one in Colorado Springs.

Working with the Denver Zoo to provide engineers to speak with
students at their exhibit design workshop and Young Scientist
program. George Pond, zoo’s planner, will attend the Feb. General
Meeting to give an update on the Asian Tropics Exhibit.

Developing handout of member firms who have been involved in Denver
Zoo exhibits for distribution through Colorado Real Estate Journal.

Participated at Society of Women Engineers’ GESET (Girls Exploring
Science, Engineering and Technology) event. 1500 middle school aged

Adrienne developed the design for the new “The Voice Weekly”, and

format that will be rolled out in January.

2009 magazine has
been submitted to McGraw Hill. We appreciate the efforts of over 20
firms who submitted articles for the annual publication. Governor
Ritter is on the cover and provided article.
